THE HISTORY OF
Starting in the 1870’s as a railroad stop between Denver and Cheyenne, Broomfield has a long and colorful history. In 1885, local businessman Adolph J. Zang purchased 4000 acres and started a farming community known as Zang’s Spur. The town would continue to grow and eventually be named Broomfield because of the numerous fields of broom corn.
Located just off Highway 36, Broomfield is about 8 miles southeast of Boulder. It was incorporated in 1961 and became a county in 2001.
